Two Sides of Thank You, November 2008

Two Sides of “Thank You”

Are you ever surprised by the level of thank you after you give someone something? It may be something you put time, money and thought into and the gift isn’t recognized like you thought it would be. In short, your expectations were not met and it is disappointing. Maybe you put little or no thought into doing something for someone else and the thank you was deep and profound.

We give out of love, sincerity, and genuine desire.

We give because we feel obligated or because (admit it) we want the attention.

We give because we expect something in return.

Our motives are easily recognized.

We say thank you because the gift meant so much to us.

We say thank you because it is expected.

Sometimes we forget to say thank you at all.

What I didn’t mention was the gift. This Thanksgiving, let us not forget the gifts. Gifts of knowledge, experience, emotional strength, people in our lives and _________. You can fill in the blank.

Thank you to all of you who read this, and the sincere comments I receive every month.

I write this for you with heartfelt enthusiasm and genuine desire. (I also find writing them to be lots of fun).

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your day!
