Rivers and Reservoirs
What do rivers and reservoirs have in common? Did you think water, usually contained,
but sometimes it overflows.
What is the difference?
There is something romantic about sitting on the banks of a river, listening and watching
the water flow past. Rivers are peaceful and calming, movies and songs have been
written about them for years. Rivers move, they create life, create energy and make
noise.
Anything romantic about a reservoir (another word could be retention pond)? Do any
movies or song titles come to mind? I didn’t think so. Reservoirs tend to make us think
quiet, stagnant, not doing anything, in other words, boring. Reservoirs hold water; ask
anyone with a wet basement how important they are. Reservoirs are vital in helping
prevent problems.
Some of us spend most of life like a river, moving, creating noise, not much time for
quiet reflection; after all, we have a job to do.
Others spend more time in the reservoir, planning, thinking, maybe even afraid to move
and create noise.
Which one are you more like, the river or the reservoir?
Rivers and reservoirs are equally important to this world. Some of us would say one is
more important than the other, maybe that answer depends on where you live and what
recreational activities you enjoy or how often your basement is wet. Some of us spend
more time moving, and some of us spend more time thinking.
My hope is that you spend time in the reservoir, first planning and thinking, then get in
the river and create some noise!
If you are spending too much time in the river or too much time in the reservoir and need
to change, give me a call. It doesn’t take long to make significant changes,
you will start the first hour we talk.
