Pencil Marks and Erasers, September 2008

Pencil Marks and Erasers

Pencils and erasers are included in almost every back to school supply list. Why?
Because mistakes are easy to erase if we use a pencil, however erasing tends to leave eraser marks. Some of the original works lingers in the shadows helping us remember the mistake. In school, we keep working until we get the problems right, after all our grade depends on it. Sometimes we ask the teacher or friends who have solved the problem to help us. We don’t stop because the assignment is due; a deadline has to be met.

Don’t you wish it was that easy in life? Writing your life using a pencil so you could easily erase the mistakes. Mistakes in life take more work to erase and we generally don’t have a deadline. We also don’t have to meet someone else’s expectations of quality work. The lack of deadlines and expectations can prevent us from picking up the eraser.

Fear can prevent us from asking “teachers” and friends to help. If we don’t pick up the eraser, we will never know if the mistake is one that is easily corrected, some of life’s mistakes can be easily corrected. If we don’t pick up the eraser, we will never know the excitement and new beginning that comes with the right answer.

My wish is that you pick up the eraser, which may look like a phone, an e mail, a heartfelt apology or a promise of change. If you need a teacher, don’t hesitate to call me.

My first appointment is always at no obligation and completely free of charge. Mistakes are more quickly erased using the right teacher.

To all the teachers and students who read this, have a terrific school year and may your erasers get used often.
