MISSING CHRISTMAS
Ah, Christmas!
All the commercial and store advertisements make us feel like we won’t be happy unless we have what they are selling.TV shows make us wish for something we don’t have, like we are missing something. Every day whether it is December or not, we tend to spend time thinking about things we don’t have, things like time, money, perhaps the latest phone or newest TV. The following experience made me think differently about what I was missing.On a recent trip home from Indiana I missed an exit that would have taken me around Chicago. Instead, I drove the expressway into the middle of downtown Chicago. This meant 4 lanes of traffic going 70 miles per hour surrounded by cement. It also meant sudden stops and sudden goes, all on a Sunday afternoon. What was I missing other than the right exit?This is what I missed.
It was a Sunday afternoon, not rush hour.
My car is reliable and there was no danger of running out of gas.
In my car was a fully charged cell phone.
Someone else was with me and neither of us needed a bathroom.
Road conditions were dry and I didn’t have a deadline to meet.
I had been on that same expressway once or twice before and was confident in my ability.Home, where we see everything that needs to be done, everything that we need to pay for and miss the fact that it is home.
Home, where the pace is hectic, where life can be messy and we miss life.Sometimes we tend to miss important things.
This Christmas, I hope you spend time on all the wonderful things in your life that you are “missing”

All I was seeing was cement, traffic and road signs, I missed all the good things I had right where I was. Chicago expressways are not fun on a Sunday afternoon, or any other afternoon and it was good to be home.
