Identity Theft
October, fall, football, and Halloween
Kids get excited about putting on masks and dressing up as princesses, cartoon characters
or superheroes. They eagerly hide their identity to see if they can fool people into
believing they are someone else. Sometimes it works.
Teenagers and adults do the same thing, also eagerly wanting to hide our true identities
from other people and sometimes from ourselves. The masks adults use are much more
sophisticated. We wear masks that make us appear is if we have everything under
control. We hide behind cosmetics, plastic surgery, and expensive things or behind
busyness, technology, or football. Adults use sophisticated masks because we have
sophisticated things to hide. We want to hide our mistakes, a lack of ability, preparation,
knowledge or a destructive habit. Kids think wearing a mask if fun. Adults will find it
stressful, difficult and limiting to our view. There are those of us who put on a mask
when we walk out of the door in the morning and put on a different one when we get
home. We can even change one mask for another several times a day.
This leads me to ask two questions.
What masks are stealing your identity?
What are you hiding?

off the masks.
