FEAR ESCAPE
On every hotel room door there is detailed fire escape plan. Businesses and schools also
have fire escape plans clearly posted. Usually the plans involve a map of the building
with red arrows and lines telling us which direction to go and pointing us to safety. We
practice fire drills so everyone knows what to do.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we had a fear escape plan, a detailed plan with red arrows telling us
what to do and who to call in the case of fear. It is not so easy is it and we don’t practice
fear drills. In the case of a fire, we know what we are running from; we know what is
chasing us, even if we don’t see the fire. When we are afraid of something, we don’t
always know what is chasing us, we can’t identify what that vague feeling is. Sometimes
nothing is chasing us.
Interesting isn’t it? I have a couple suggestions for your personal fear drill, ways to
handle fear and maybe recognize what is chasing you.
First
Arm yourself with knowledge from reliable sources. This knowledge should decrease
your fear, if it increases your fear; it is not the right source. Make sure you hear the same
thing from several sources. (Hint, your friends may not be the reliable sources.)
Second
Schedule “down time” If down time doesn’t work, schedule “up time” in other words,
find something to do.
Third
The quickest way to identify what you are running from and handle fear is to hire a
coach. The fear reduction and insight can be priceless and take less time than you think.
Procrastination costs a lot.
Fourth
The bible says “do not fear” 365 times, once for every day of the year.
I get lots of comments every month and I would love to hear your thoughts on this one
